I do computers and learn about them at Purdue University. It turns out we don’t know everything about computers, so I’m doing university-sponsored research with the lovely SoCET team to try and figure out some more. We’re doing fascinating work–you can read more about my experience with them here. Hint: it involves an (deep breath) AI accelerator ASIC designed for parallel machine learning inference that uses a hybrid VLIW/EPIC architecture executing 160-bit instruction packets. There are more buzzwords where that came from!
My primary background is in embedded systems. Writing C and HDL, designing PCBs, and verifying that the mess of wires and silicon on my desk produces a pretty signal on my CRT oscilloscope. It all started at age 8 with a knockoff Arduino Uno from Micro Center, and an array of LEDs I’d animate using digitalWrite(). The obsession continued to middle school when I developed a relay-driven smart home appliance centered around an ESP8266 which exposed an API to enable control from a mobile app. In high school and as an undergrad, I began to document more about the things I built. Check them out in projects! Once I became laser-focused on academics at Purdue though, notable works came from extensions on coursework artifacts. One of my favorites was the Superhet FM digitally-tuned radio I built in RF Communications in my sophomore year.
